Dog Friendly Places To Visit In The North East

When you are staying with us at the Rosebery, as one of the only dog-friendly bed and breakfast’s in Jesmond and you want to explore the region with your four-legged friends. These are some of the fantastic places that we recommend to you visit.

We will start with the nearest first.

Jesmond Dene Park for Walkies

Obviously, the superb Jesmond Dene, which is a mere 1 minute from the hotel, with acres and acres, of mature trees, paths and a tributary of the Tyne, the Ouseburn, which runs through the bottom of the Dene, into the Tyne at the Quayside.

Jesmond Dene was built and bequeathed to the ‘workers of Newcastle’ by Lord Armstrong, who was an engineer, inventor, philanthropist and armament manufacturer. Armstrong had a love of plants and sent his gardeners all around the world to collect specimens of plants and flowers, which now thrive in the Dene.

There is a fabulous petting zoo – called Pet’s Corner. Dogs are not allowed in, however, they can be tied up at the gates and ogle at the array of rabbits, guinea pigs, pot-bellied pigs, pygmy goats, sheep, birds and other small mammals.

There is a little tea shop called Millfield House where you can get a cuppa and a slice of cake.

Cafe 1901 Jesmond for Lunch After Walkies

Cafe 1901 is a super little dog-friendly cafe, which is part of a converted Church on St George’s Terrace in Jesmond, a mere, 8 minutes walk from the Rosebery. It has a super eclectic vibe, being an old church and is decorated with super vintage finds, which we love! Old cinema seats, vintage oak tables, industrial lights and quirky decorative pieces. It is also dog-friendly!!  Great cooked menu and is open all day.

Or the Ship Inn Ousburn (Vegan)

The Ship Inn in the heart of the Ouseburn, a 10-minute walk from the Rosebery, has got to be one of the best places in the region for a super doggy friendly, VEGAN pub! The food is absolutely delicious, a vast array of what appears to be non-vegan food, but is actually all vegan. The Sunday lunches are especially fantastic, their famous Nut Roast, is taste tingling scrummy! Everything is cooked from scratch. Care and love really go into your plate and the staff are super friendly and helpful #welovetheshipinnouseburn.

Beer at The Brandling Villa

The Brandling Villa in South Gosforth is super doggy friendly, they have a great range of craft beers, the usual selection on tap and they also host a number of quiz’s and live events – all dog-friendly!

Head to the Coast

A little further afield but still only 10 minutes from The Rosebery Hotel, you’ll find the stunning North East coastline of Tynemouth, Cullercoats, Whitley Bay and Seaton Sluice.

These are all areas with fabulously stunning beaches that are dog-friendly.
